About sensory performance

Performance traditions are dominated by sounds and images. Is it possible to develop a new performance language which stimulates all of our senses?

Multi-sensory theatre can both challenge the traditionally passive role of the audience and expand their experiential capacity by introducing smell, taste and touch as conduits of meaning. The promenade aspect of our work further enhances their engagement by allowing them to experience themselves as protagonists within the unfolding drama. The audience is at times blindfold, which heightens their sensory perception and opens them to other ways of communicating.

At its heart our work tackles communication – the senses we use to receive information, the different methods we use for conveying it. As such it generates strategies that enable individuals to relate with each other. Such strategies have the potential to open up new lines of communication and understanding between people and their environment.
By expanding our awareness of our senses, multi-sensory theatre aims to increase our capacity to taste, smell, feel, hear, see and thus fully engage with the world we live in. At the same time it serves to highlight the precious nature of our senses as the sources of all experience.

What we do

Cabaret performance and roving characters – we have existing short performances designed to fit within the context of other events and we are always keen to devise new ones.

Full scale performance – "Source/Sauce" is our only existing full scale work, but we are currently devising a new project focusing on smell as the principal sensory driver of the drama, with the assistance of smell technology experts, Air Aroma.

Arts residencies – we are available to design projects for schools, disability recreation programs or in collaboration with other arts organizations.

Workshops – we have a range of existing workshop programs for various environments and audiences and are also able to custom design programs for different events and timeframes.
